I have been a harvester of quotes since my early youth. Coming from a poor background, I found quote collecting to be one of the cheapest hobbies. I have dozens of journals filled with homey bits of wisdom, polished phrases of elegance, savage barrages of insult and criticism, and bon mots of wit and humor. My scrap books don’t have pictures or drawings, but clippings of quotes torn from magazines, ads, and pamphlets. My book shelves are full of collections of quotations, and I peruse biographies and autobiographies for gems of insight, observation and well worded wisdom. I collect self help books because they are full of motivational exhortations by the leading thinkers, philosophers, and holy men of the ages.
Nowadays the Internet gives one an unlimited supply of quotes. There are quotation blogs and collections to meet every interest. My tiny effort is humble and mostly to amuse myself. I add a bit of commentary or biographical information like a bit of flavor or spice to enhance the harvested goods for consumption. If the mix is not always appetizing, please ignore or add your own bit of seasoning with a comment.
